About Me

Niki Vetten is an artist based in Johannesburg, South Africa. I have had a strong interest in human anatomy from an early age, as I come from a medical family. I have practiced Aikido (Japanese martial art) and Qi Gong for a number of years. I took up yoga a few years ago, mainly Ashtanga and Vinyasa flow, although I have tried a few other styles as well.

When practicing yoga, I came to appreciate the importance of balanced practice, and feel the effects of sequences that did not work for me. Speaking to fellow-yogis and teachers made me aware that many of these injuries are common side-effects of yoga, and suffering from my own yoga-related problems led to consultations with Chiropractors, Biokineticists and Movement Specialists. The articles presented here are the result of discussions with many yoga teachers and independent research.

I teach movement anatomy and injury prevention for yoga teacher training as well as workshops for yoga teachers and students in Johannesburg.
